Well, I'm a new reader here, but I have to say that the shoe painting looked like such fun to me that I saved it for later.
ReplyDeleteAny kind of tutorial is always a fave of mine.
Oh, pooh, the link didn't show above. It's the post for June 29, 2010.

ReplyDeleteI love your post on August 15th this summer. "Follow your Blisters".
ReplyDeleteI needed to read that!
I think more tutorials on Photoshop elements would be wonderful!
I would love to win your giveaways!
I like the tutorials too, but my favorite post in the last few months has been "On Being Blind". I like the frank talk about obstacles.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear more about how you create, where it comes from, your creative environment, your tools and how you overcome obstacles.
Great prizes - would love to win. The post I remember most was when you carved eraser stamps. I watched that vid several times and got a new exacto blade from seeing what I needed. I would like more of that type of post in the future. Tools you use that work well and easy demos. Thanks for letting us play. Lori W at Art Camp for Women
ReplyDeleteI loved your recent blog on bliss and finding your way. I have found art again after so many years of teaching (science) and raising a family. I am taking drawing classes and too am practicing drawing faces - gee you do not have much time when using the TV as an inspiration - things move too fast. Keep up your blog on drawing challenges - it encourages people like m who have not drawn for 30 years - except on a black or white board. thank you for this chance to win.
ReplyDelete☆¨(◕‿-✿)❀♫❤☼☯Tough question... what's NOT to like? I always enjoy watching tutorials and learning techniques to use in my own work...since I'm a graphic & web designer, I especially enjoy the photoshop tips. Combining art and digital design is something I'd love to see more of. Also love your name! ~Hobby ☯☼❤♫❀(◕‿-✿)¨☆
ReplyDelete1 My favortie post: I liked the post on color and the one on butterflies. I also like the Photoshop Tutorials
ReplyDelete2-Maybe the tutorials on Photoshop; it is often difficult to find technique info for it
I like your sketchbook posts as well.
video tutorials showing the artist's hands teach me in a way i could never learn from written instructions in a magazine, even when they're step-by-step. and i would love to see any kind of mixed media techniques with digital trickery and paint (this century's version of "smoke and mirrors"?)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I just recently discovered all your wonderful tutorials and as of today it has to be the shoes. AMAZING...I cant wait to try them. I would love to see more on the drawing I am still learning. Thanks for for generosity on your blog and would love to win
ReplyDeleteLinda
1) Love the tutorials. Your Tutorial: Citra-Solv Photocopy Transfer is a favorite.
ReplyDelete2) Inspirational posts such as frogs. And more tutorials.
Thanks!
My favorite was all the pictures of frogs. I love them and the little toads that I see romping around my garden. Your line drawings I would love to have all of them in my room, I have just asked my son to make me a line drawing of a tree for my birthday next week. Can you tell me about the pen so I can get him one?) You inspirational pictures are magic and I'd love to continue to learn even the tiniest technique in pictures. I want to learn everything! (Sorry for the long post)
ReplyDeleteI love your tutorials, How to frame small works was great and I have used your ideas to frame some small work. I would love to see more tutorials on your process.
ReplyDeleteYour a great teacher, very understandable and fun

Hello Lyric,
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog the roundabout way...from the Quilt University class you teach.
I noticed the book you wrote, found it within inter library loan, it came from over 200 miles away and I have renewed it two times!
I plan to enroll in your next Q.U.class.
I never blogged before so forgive me if I've bungled it. I signed up especially to let you know how encouraging your writing is and hoping to be the lucky winner!!
I enjoy your tutorials and your candid writing.
Thanks for sharing YOU! Cynthia
I go along with most of the other people commenting here your tutorials are just great.....
ReplyDeleteWould like to see more of them.
Melva Bates
Lyric - I like most of all your tutorials - all of them. And the Frogs - I have several frog frogs for my cut flowers and they are so fun.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite on your blog is any tutorial--but especially the one on painted shoes--which I have wanted to do but didn't know the details of how.
ReplyDeleteI like the blog the way it is--some tutorials --some of what you and others are doing. Keep up the good work Janet Wright
I just discovered this site, so any future ones will be my favorite (and you are now added to my "favorites". Love the tutorials I have seen in print, so would love tutorials and chat about many different techniques you use or those used by other's that you know.

I have to admit, this is my first visit to your blog - but I was so excited about your tutorials and learned how to cut out an image on PSE just this morning. So thank you for this! and I would say I would love to see more tutorials. What a great giveaway - thanks for the chance to win! Cheers
ReplyDeleteI loved the post of the shoes you painted! I want to try that. I would like more posts like that showing how to transform something into something so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love the tutorials! I had your book on my wish list, but recently purchased it purchased it. Your tutorial on How to "Paint Your Shoes" reminded me of a pair on canvas shoes I painted when I was in college during the '70s. It's time to do another pair!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Lyric! I'm so excited about your prizes and that today is your day! My favorite post in from 2010 -- your painted shoes and pictures of Quilt Simulations! I love your creative tutorials. So important with our economy such as it is! I love the visual stimulation you give by showing us pieces of art to drool over!
ReplyDeleteWhat would I like to see for the future? More of the same. How to be creative and artistic with what we have, and feed our souls with beautiful artistic works!
Also please keep sharing your progress. I love seeing what you're up to!
Hi Lyric,
ReplyDeleteChoosing a favorite post is hard! There are so many good ones. I really did love your post with the close up pictures of bees (For Your Inspiration: Bees). Love bees! One thing I'd love to see on your blog is something about how you mount and display your art quilts. A list of topics would be great too! Thanks for sharing your work and knowledge. - Ronni
My favorite post is the painted shoe tutorial. Comfortable shoes are a must for me and when I find a great pair I wear them until they look ugly. I followed the tutorial and ended up with a great, fun pair of shoes that were great looking again. I have to say that in the future I would love to see more tutorials of any kind. I was a traditional quilter (still kind of am) for quite a while until I discovered art quilts, surface design, etc. I'm loving it all! Thanks for the opportunity to win the great prizes.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see more Tutorials - I guess that is what everyone loves here - I am also a big Photoshop Elements person - So more on this subject would also be great - Thanks for giving us this wonderful opportunity. xx Kristine
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteI like your beaded fringe tutorial even though I still cannot get it right. I know it is because of me though and not the tutorial!
I also like how you show different techniques and mediums and hope to see more (like the painted shoes). Otherwise I might be too intimidated to try them out.
I'm actually new to your blog, so haven't had a chance to explore it much yet. The tutorials look wonderful, though!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for doing this giveaway.
I love the posts on drawing, you make it look so easy. It encourages me to "go for it"! I also like the Tutorial: Citra-Solv Photocopy Transfer. I would like to see more tutorials because it helps me to grow in areas I maybe wouldn't have =) Thanks for the giveaways...would LOVE to win!
ReplyDeleteTerri (fabfam4@cox.net)
I like your tutorials of course, but I also like your Lyricisms. They are inspiring and help me feel that I am not the only one trying to be creative with children underfoot. I really like your post this week: Follow your Blissters. Anything that your have time to write is okay with me.
ReplyDelete1. Love the tutorials ... the shoe one has me thinking about making that my next project.
ReplyDelete2. I'd just like to see more of what you are already doing.
Lyric, Thank you for all of the tutorials you so generously share with us. I check in constantly to review the old and see what's new.
ReplyDeleteLove your tutorials and would love to see more. I had fun with the little sketchbook cover one! Gave me a chance to use some of the fun small printed fabrics I have. thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your kitchen remodel. Make me think I can handle my own.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see more of your bird drawings.
Hi Lyric,
ReplyDeleteI can't pin it down to which blog post I like best. The fact is I have been a follower of yours for a long time because I too believe strongly in building a foundation for all arts on elements and principles. This gives us all (children to adult) a common ground for discussion, appreciation, exploration etc. etc. Your articles and book illustrate these concepts so well. I took your course through Quilt University and loved it. Please keep going with the tutorials. Kathy
my favorite is Artist spotlight when you interviewed melanie testa. I love her work and started following her on facebook and her blog. i love seeing other artists spotlighted. I have really enjoyed your posts and find inspiration for my own work by seeing and hearing how other artists keep pushing themselves and show no fear. I do already have the sample platter and learned so much from it. It has helped me to really grow as an artist. I have a long way to go, but I am on my way.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite simple post is Family Time. I also love the tutorial on painting shoes. I've really enjoyed the faces on Friday too and...
ReplyDeleteWhat do I want to see more of? More CitraSolve projects. The process fascinates me and I have finally found a copier that will transfer.
Appreciate the tutorials, the most. Love your colors, secondly. More more more! Thanks much.
ReplyDeleteSo much to love about your blog, but tutorials are my favorite and there can never be enough, so more tutorials, lol! Thanks for the inspiration and giveaway! shop(at)betoncat(dot)com
ReplyDeleteJust like most everyone, I do enjoy your tutorials. Was esp. intrigued when you mentioned getting a NG Citrsolv to transfer to fabric. Did you try yet? Today is my birthday so hope this brings me luck. Thank you for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI loved your sketchbook cover tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see even more tutorials!
I'm new to your blog so not sure about my favorite. You have tutorials on Elements? Hooray! Going to have to search your archives. I always appreciate it when artists do tutorials. Sharing knowledge is so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway stuff!
There are so many great posts - I love seeing your sketches and hearing about how you manage your family and art but if I have to pick a favorite I would say it has to be your tutorials. Loved the book cover tute as well as the tutes about photoshop elements and citrasolv. I would love to see more about photoshop elements and thermofax and silk screening. Thanks so much for taking the time to post!
ReplyDeleteI love the tutorials... little bits of inspiration! I'm learning Photoshop Elements so that would be an area I'd like to see more of. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI like your citra-solv post. I love tutorials and would love to see more in the future. Fingers crossed on the books. Thanks!ALSO LOVE THE SHOES AND WILL GIVE THAT A TRY IF I CAN GET MY DOGGGIE TO GIVE THEM BACK!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm not a quilter, I love reading about surface design techniques (I make jewelry with fabric and bead embroidery). Your tutorials are much appreciated, and having done them myself, I know they are a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteI feel like it's cheating, but I am IN LOVE with your shoe decorating post! And on that vein, all tutorials on blogs are what I hope to see more of!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Heather
I'm "stuck" in the woods with over an hour and a half drive to find fabric, threads, paint or classes so your tutorials are my favorite! Since I am usually creating solo I would love to see more challenges.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I love your tutorials, but I really liked the post on "Follow your Blisters".
ReplyDeleteI would love to see more tutorials too..
I like seeing your art work - on fabric and paper. And I really like the tutorials: the Cascade discharged design with the ammonite thermofax screen was great.
ReplyDeleteWould prefer seeing more of your art - even sketchbooks - rather than photos of landscapes ec.
Well, today's favorite is Shoe Painting. People have been posting pictures of really neat shoes and you've just shown me I can do it too - yay.
ReplyDeleteYour tutorials are great (meaning 'Don't Stop') but I also like the thought pieces (Bliss/Blister) and your own process. You have a good balance in this blog.
Countour drawing - Raleigh sketch-in is a favourite post.
ReplyDeleteWhat I would like to see more: photo inspiration. I love the photos you take.
I had your post on 'creating depth and space' (with the pic of the Smokey Mountains) starred in my feed reader for a really long time...that concept was a little light bulb for me. In generally, I really like seeing your sketches. Watching other people's work float by in my feed reader is motivating.
ReplyDeleteI only recently discovered you/your blog through Sketchbook Challenge in mid-July, so there's not much past reading to recall from YET! However, I am COMPLETELY jazzed about painting some shoes and have just sent a link to that post to a friend of mine. What a fabulous way to make very individualized studio shoes! Tutorials are wonderful, especially when they provide another way to express myself creatively and individually. Thank you and Interweave for a chance to win your book and DVD!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite post is the Lyricism "on being blind." I too am totally dependent on my glasses, and I like the wisdom and encouragement in that post.
ReplyDeleteFollow your blisters was a close second.
However, I'd like to see more tutorials. I will be making sketchbook slipcovers for sure.
1 -I love the tutorials - wish I had time for them all!
ReplyDelete2 Birds, birds, birds and more birds - I love birds.
I'm new to your blog but I've read the articles you have written for Quilting Arts magazine. Loved the articles on different ways to mount/display fiber art.
ReplyDelete1 - Photo transfer with Citra-Solv
2 - More ways to mount/display fiber art
I'm afraid I'm just like everyone else and enjoy the tutorials. Loved the one with the shoes. How you find time to do anything is amazing to me. As far as the future goes just keep up the good work. I really enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteQ1) A tricky one - I love the paint your shoes - I'm sure you've written about shoe painting on an earlier posting too. They are just so funky!
ReplyDeleteBut some of your inspiration posts have been truly inspiring too. As someone else said the frogs were great.
Q2) More tutorials, more inspiration. Can't narrow it down to just one choice :-)
Hi Lyric, I would love to win-thank you so much for your generiosity
ReplyDelete1)I don't know that this was on your blog, but in your book and I carry it in my journal "keep in mind that there are times when other things in your life must take priority over the production of your art..there truely is a season for every purpose in life...it may take years of nurtured vision before the completion of a project...to develop as an artist you must give yourself time to learn and grow....."
2) I like what you are doing with your posts and blog. Keep up the good work.
Hi Lyric, I really enjoyed yesterday's Sampler class and am working on my book cover today. I'll have to vote on "Paint your shoes" as my favorite blog entry--where else can we learn THAT! And, I'd like to see more blogs that give ideas on embellishing the Citrasolve photo transfers. Keep up the good work! ~~Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have 2 favorite posts, and those are the one about being half blind (because I am too) and the one about painting your shoes!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see more tutorials because I'm very interested to see exactly how people do things. The creative process fascinates me.
I always learn something from each post I've read, so I cant say theres been one any better than another.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy the workshops but I seem to find inspiration in each post, so I cant say ONLY the workshops are of real interest to me.
I hate to say it, but for me, you seem to have the balance perfect as it is!
I really like your bleach printing tutorial video (argh, can't remember the name of it right now...). It makes the technique really approachable and I'm definitely going to try it! I also like your painted shoes post! I love any blog that has lots of tutorials, so I'd definitely vote for seeing more of those here! Thanks for the giveaway!

How can I pick ONE! It is like choosing your favorite child.
ReplyDeleteI love your tutorials, especially the shoes!
Your posts that include your personal feelings are wonderful because I realize even someone as talented as you can be so caught up in day to day that the muse in you gets suppressed. You often make me feel as if I too can develop skills if I only practice enough. What is enough? I love the way you show your process. Thanks and I really really would love to win your donated prize.
Linda
I didn't have opportunity to leave my email before the page skipped away.....I really want you to be able to find me if I am so fortunate as to win your giveaways.

My favourite post is the tutorial on painting shoes - I have bought some just to paint! Got the handbag coming too! I just love your tutorials, esp. with doing 'odd' things (the drawings are great to see, but they're not me!). Thank you for the opportunity to win and your excitement!

ReplyDeleteI'm quite new to your blog. I've to explore more of your old posts. But I really love your tutorial on shoes painting. It is such an inspiring idea. I would like to see more of such tutorials.
ReplyDeleteYour tutorials are my favorite too-the citrasolve one especially. So what would I like to see more of---more tutorials of course!
ReplyDeleteOh I LOVE the Citra=solve post. My Mom died 5/31. I'm an only child so the responsibility of cleaning out/staging/selling her home of 55+ years falls to me. It's been incredibly hard. I've been working in her bedroom trying to be an automiton removing my emotional self, looking at things and just thinking "toss" or "donate". The other day I had a box of white buttons and tiny safety pins. I hesitiated for a moment...then tossed. I couldn't sleep. I had to go through the trash. I felt compelled. Then I got an idea to use a vintage picture of her and make an art quilt. The buttons, tiney safety pins and other ephemera I reovered will be crucial. I've decided to do a series of art quilts: one of my Mom, one of my Dad and one of their wedding picture. The citraaolve post and the current give away (if I'm lucky enough to win) dovetail perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win.
I don't think you should change your blog...I like the mix of technique/inspiration/personal chat.
Doreen aka LuniLadi

ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and I LOVE it! 1 - I LOVE LOVE LOVE your post on Lyricisms - about being blind. I just did a journal page about how I never draw because I feel so...inept at drawing, and yet I feel like it is something that is holding me back in my art and it's something I want to get comfortable with so that I can grow and stretch in my art. 2 - Your tutorials are awesome - keep them up!
ReplyDeleteI liked the tute on making journal slipcovers, but would also like to see more thought-provoking posts like the Follow your Blisters one. ReplyDeleteHope my post goes through this time. Apparently I'm having big problems with my computer. How we rely on them!
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed your blog so it would be hard for me to pick a particular post that I love best. I really enjoy the inspirational pictures though. And I've been known to haunt cemeteries so your inspirational photos from there encouraged me. I also love your "portraits."
But I really love your tutorials! And the one thing I'd love to see more of -- TUTORIALS!
Thanks so much, Lyric!

I really like the frog one, but the sketch a days have meant a lot. They have taught me that e ery activity doesn't have to be "finished" to be important. I love Art and Quilt" because of the way you teach.
ReplyDeleteTutorials, especially about media and other essential products would be my choice of direction.
I've checked your blog before, saw you with PokeyB on quilting arts tv, and read your posts on their site. So, of course would love to win your giveaway. Thanks for that chance. Tute: Translate what you do into a few simple things a "contemporary traditional" quilter can use on their bed quilts. BTW The shoe painting post was fun.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first trip to your blog, but I really liked the post about altering your shoes. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love all the detail in your tutorial and would love to see more of that.
Thanks!
Oh Lyric, what's not to like about all of your posts. Love the tutorials, your encouragement about drawing, your point of view. You discover something neat and you bring it right back to your readers. So more of all of the above please.
ReplyDeleteHi Lyric. Great Give away. Love your tutorials and would love to see more. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed the sketch a day. Also liked the tutorial on journal covers. That was a "duh" moment as I do them and they are considerably more complicated!
ReplyDeleteI suppose I should like more tutorials but I am open to what comes.
Favorites change from day to day if not more often. Life gets in the way of doing what I would like so I enjoy seeing others do it.
Thank you for holding this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI've had a hard time choosing my favourite post since I found your blog through the Sketchbook Challenge site. I think it is your tutorial "Creating Depth and Space pt3 Color and Value" from June.
I'd like to see more tutorials, but I also love your sketch-a-day series and anything you write about fabric and quilting.
Looking back, the things I starred in my reader are the inspiration pictures of the bees and beach, so inspiration is great. I enjoy reading your blog always.
ReplyDeleteok... I LOVE sketch a day #28 - my kind of drawing!...and as far as improvements - i like your blog just like it is! ....of course, you can't post too many tutorials....
