the Kindness Chronicles

A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Saint Basil

It's back to school time here. The kids pack up and head off for the day, sometimes with more enthusiasm than others. And I welcome them home each afternoon, sometimes with more enthusiasm than others. I need to work on that. I need to be the mom that gives each kid a great big smile and hug. The plate of cookies might never happen but I can certainly slow down for a minute and listen do their litany of the day.

Here is a website that will bring a little fun and kindness into the day of your child, spouse, friend, or maybe even a stranger. (I'm going to try that I think.)

Try printing up some cute labels to stick to a soda can. (Except I'm horrifically mean and don't let my kids drink soda unless it's a special occasion.)

What other ideas do you have for adding a little kindness to someone's day?

  1. Great ideas for the new school year. There have been occasions when my children have heard of a child getting regular notes in their lunches and they are jealous. The ask me why I don't do the same and then it is followed up with "And why don't YOU make MY lunch?" I tell them I am teaching them responsibility by making them make their own lunches. They just sigh and roll their eyes. I think they would appreciate something like this even more just because I don't do it regularly. There was a time when I would greet my children after school with cut up apples and cheese. I wonder why I stopped that. Perhaps that is a kindness I can provide again.

  2. I made nine dolls in the last month and I'm donating them to our local community kitchen for a fundraiser. I wrote about them - the dolls, with pictures - on my blog post yesterday. Planning to share my work gives me the motivation I need for being creative!

  3. Lisa - I make my kids make their own lunches too. But I can slip a note in here and there. I like the apples and cheese idea. Or cheese toast.
