and Now For Something Completely Different...

I feel completely overwhelmed right now.
Deadlines that I'm afraid of falling behind on.
So many family obligations that I can't quite keep up.
Too many blessings to keep up with right?
(as I repeat over and over and over...  It's all good. It's all good. It's all good.)

So instead of buckling down and working harder I get the overwhelming urge to curl up in bed and read a book. But I don't let myself. That will be my reward ... maybe at Thanksgiving when everything is done.

I'll do something completely different (another avoidance mechanism I know.)
Here is my silly-with-kids Halloween playlist.
Do you have anything to add to it?

Monster Mash
by Bobby "Boris: Pickett & The Cryptkickers

Purple People Eater
by Sheb Wooley

Dead Egyptian Blues
by Trout Fishing In America

Valley of the Dry Bones
by The Red Clay Ramblers

Oh Death
by Ralph Stanley on O Brother, Where Art Thou

Boa Constrictor
The Best of Shel Silverstein

Funeral March of a Marionette
by Charles Gounod

Now that I've wasted a very fine hour....
what are some of your favorites funny halloween songs?
And am I the only one who is horrible like this when deadlines loom?

You're not alone Lyric. I have a tendency to scour Facebook and blogs when I have a deadline/s that is crashing in on me! I think it's the little girl in me stomping her feet and demanding a recess! :)

Oh no, you are not alone, not at all! Especially the urge to curl up with a book instead of doing x and y and z - I know that one perfectly well ;-)) In the end, it will work out, I'm pretty sure ...

I love your song playlist. Couple of them I haven't heard so will have to find. When I start to feel overwhelmed ( more and more lately) I start a list of everything I want/need to do. This helps me to see what's really important and helps me to keep on track. In the end what needs to get done will.

Lyric, if I am procrastinating, sometimes it helps if I just do one easy step of one "to do" item. Then I think, "Well, that went fast, so I still have time to do x"--another easy thing and before I know it, I'm on a roll. It also helps if I leave something in progress, for example, a seam still under the needle. Then when I walk into my studio, I can just sit down and start in without trying to plan an attack strategy. Hope this helps!

Oh! No Lyric you are not alone, I'd like to make distracting behavoir an art form. Love your playlist, there are things there I'd quite forgotten about.

For the Halloween playlist (which is great, btw!) I would also recommend Danse Macabre by Saint Saens. Here is a link to a youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcOZmtbLRP0&feature=related

when I was in 6th grade (a very, very long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) our teacher brought in this record with Danse Macabre on it. It was a few days before Halloween - she briefly explained the history of the music and then said "Now, YOU dance it - be the skeletons come to life." That was seriously one of the best things a kid that age could hear - that we were encouraged to be strange!

Anyway, I've loved that piece ever since.

And, btw - so glad to hear someone say they, too, get the urge to curl up with a book when there is so much to do! I have lists of things to be done, with dates, etc...to no avail. There is always a way to procrastinate. Human nature, I'm sure. I try not to think too much about it...I still get things done on time. I always remind myself that when I'm getting near the end of my life I am probably NOT going to be sitting there thinking "gee whiz - I really wish I would've made that deadline back in 2010."
