Joy in Service - Day 4 Let's Make it BIG!

Sandy Snowden linked my blog to hers and asked her readers to come along on this ride and it gave me an idea. Lets all do it...  kind of a Pay It Forward thing.
Random acts of beauty, kindness, and service.
(It's certainly not an original idea, and certainly not mine - but it helps to be reminded.)

Ask your blog readers, your twitter followers, and even your facebook friends to do it too.
One kindness, one act of service a day.

It can be as small as a smile and a wave.
It can be as big as making a quilt for a charity.

Take this button and pass it on. Then come back here and tell me what you did.

Yesterday you did wonderful things like letting a friend cry on your shoulder, sending a note, walking through someone creative discovery, praying.
Yesterday I did something as small as gave my son a back rub when my first inclination was to give him a tongue lashing.

How did you make the world a better place?
(and didn't it make you feel great!?)

Thanks Lyric! I am actually working on a project that is "bigger than I am" - I am amazed at the love in the hearts of my quilting blog friends.

Taking your idea to heart, today I let my husband buy a raspberry tart for dessert. I really wanted a pumpkin pie but knew he really wanted the tart. This random act of kindness cost me very little ......except for the calories. Tomorrow I'm trying for apple pie.

Today, I made 15 coffee cozies (okay, it took me a few days). Some are to gift to teachers etc, and a few are going to be randomly gifted; I had such fun last week, surprising a barista at Starbucks by giving her my coffee cozy that she was "eyeballing"..

Thanks for reminding us. It takes so little for us to acknowledge a cashier, compliment someone's sweater, thanking someone who went out of her way to help us.
Not just this season, but everyday.

Oh, I didn't tell you what I did today. I really connected with the cashier at the grocery store when I checked out. And I went out of my way to find the young man who bagged my groceries and thanked him. He looked surprised.

We had our guild christmas luncheon and meeting on Saturday. I took two fat eighths sealed in envelopes with a 'message from santa' written on the front. When almost everyone got up to go and get there lunch, I slipped the envelopes into two different ladies' tote bags. I have no idea who the bags belonged to - I'm still smiling to myself when I think of how puzzled they would have been when they got home.

Lyric, an idea for you, I've done this for the last 2 Saturdays and plan to continue till Xmas. I fill a big thermos with hot water, grab 10-12 paper coffee cups, and a can of hot cocoa mix and head out. I stop and give a cup to every Salvation Army bellringer I see... their donations are way down this year, so their shifts are long, cold and minimum wage. I have gotten more hugs the last 2 weeks than I have in my lifetime. I am also emptying my clutter into their donation sites. I lost my job in early Nov, so it's all I can afford to do, at least it's something. Usually I do a lot more. I also plan to make my yearly trip on Xmas to deliver turkey dinners, a small bag of toiletries and a polar fleece scarf to every homeless person I can find on the streets of Portland till my supply runs out. Sometimes it's the little things we do that mean the most.

This is very like Gandhi's quote: "Be the change you want to see in the world."
I emailed a supplier today to say that my order had not arrived at the indicated time (it was a week late) but assured them that I didn't think it was their fault. I had also forgotten to use my coupon. They wrote back that I would be reimbursed for the coupon amount.
A couple hours later my order arrived. I emailed them immediately to say it was here and exclaimed over the product.
This was - 1 for you, 1 for me, 1 for you.
The person delivering the order told me my house smelled wonderful.
One for me. My meal was supposed to be soup but turned into sauce because the can of whole tomatoes was actually a can of tomato sauce.

I needed some things at the store. While there I found this wonderful product that I like to use but it is hard to find at a good price. It looks like brown waxed paper but it can handle high oven temperatures (500F). The instructions on this package said to put it on the bottom of the oven so any overflow can be easily cleaned up. The paper just wipes off; nothing sticks. When I was cashing out, I mentioned how great it was. The clerk agreed that it was about time for such a product. I told her that I used the paper in my baking pans/dishes. She was very happy and told me that she loves when customers give her such tips.
I went to the next store; I hadn't been there for a while. I asked the owner if he had lost a lot of weight. 48 pounds, he said, and he was happy to tell me how he did it.
I went home with a smile on my face.
